The Vizard (仮面の軍勢, kamen no gunzei; lit. masked army) are a classification of Shinigami who have acquired Hollow powers.
The Vizard are the antithesis to the Arrancar as Shinigami who have obtained Hollow powers. Having begun as Shinigami, the Vizard appear entirely Human and bar those times where they are using their powers are indistinguishable from ordinary Shinigami. To gain access to their Hollow powers, a Visored dons a Hollow mask. This allows them to augment their Shinigami abilities with Hollow powers, as well as giving them access to some of the more generic Hollow abilities. Their spiritual pressure likewise changes into a mix of Hollow and Shinigami. This process of donning one's Hollow mask is referred to as Hollowfication.
All known Vizard are former members of the Gotei 13 who have been casted out or run away due to their newly-acquired powers. They are considered criminals by the Soul Society for committing the ultimate taboo of acquiring Hollow powers and were initially ordered to be killed on sight by any members of the Gotei 13. Since the events of the Halcyonic Entropy, the relationship between Shinigami and Vizard has changed. Vizards are forbidden from entering Soul Society for any reason, voluntary or involuntary. If a Vizard is found in the Soul Society, they will be taken for execution. The Vizards will receive minor support from the Gotei 13, enough to provide for meager accommodations (other than abandoned warehouses), but not much else. Vizards were also forced to be host to a representative from the Gotei 13 at all times, usually a member of the 3rd Division or 13th Division. They will be present to monitor for signs of Hollowfication taking over. Any attacks against these representatives will be considered attacks on Seireitei, but otherwise they have no authority to give commands. There are no restrictions on spells, masks, or releases.
